My walk on Friday

So, it was a lovely sunny day on Friday, so I went for a walk. It was a lovely day. I ended up carrying my coat after about 5 mins, because I was boiling! I walked up to St Giles Hill, and had an explore up there for a bit and started to take pictures.

This bench overlooks the view point at St Giles Hill. I've always been fascinated by it!

This is the view from the viewpoint:

You can see up the high street, the cathedral, & lots of other things :)

And from a bit further down the hill:

I wandered down the hill and towards town, before turning off along the weirs. There were ducklings, but I didn't managed to get any good pictures of them - they were a bit too far away. There was a swan sat on a nest too. Won't be long now :)

The thing I like about walking along the weirs (other than the water and the ducks and everything, is that you can see the back gardens of all the houses that back onto the river. (I'm too nosey not to find this interesting!)

The other side of the path is bordered by the city walls.

I continued to follow the walls rather than the river, and came along by Winchester College

This is the headmasters house... Or more specifically, his front door. His house is MASSIVE!

All the roads round here are very narrow, and there was a comedy very small traffic jam. 2 lorries had come down from different directions, and neither could back up because there were people behind. I kept out of the way and went through the Kingsgate. There is a tiny church up there - it's mini!

Then I went through the back gates to the Cathedral.

I cut round to the front of the catehdral before getting on with my shopping.

I visited the Health Food shop, which is closing down, and didn't have what I wanted, Shakeaway for lunch (dark bounty and malt ftw!) and then got vegetables from the market before trudging my way back up the hill home... It's lots more exercise walking up the hill when carrying a bag full of potatoes :)

After all those cheery pictures of the spring, this is the view from our balcony when I woke up this morning. All change please, all change.

I love walking around Winchester. Only been up St Giles Hill once though, a very long time ago. We had a lovely walk the morning after your wedding, which was also a lovely sunny day, revisiting old haunts of mine, and checking to see that the 'treasure' was still in the wall. I always wonder what became of the princess.....

Oh, I've not seen the treasure before... I will have to find it for myself now. Well. Not ~right~ now. It's raining again.

go through the archway in the first picture and you'll find it a little way along on the right.

I know... when I go abroad I end up finding boring things like blocks of flats and things fascinating, because there not-quite-the-same. FYI - the block of flats in the snow picture is exactly the same as the one I live in, except mine is painted greenish instead of beigeish along the bottom and corners! ... there are 2 others past the right of the picture. Not all of Winchester is pretty ;)

Haha, my apartments are ugly as well. Thankfully they have a lot of beautiful trees around them.

I just realised you weren't on my RSS reader. I have rectified that! :) Thanks for a lovely meetup this morning. I'll post a progress picture of my blankie tomorrow! :)
